Sale dazzle under the lights against Moseley

Seventh placed Birmingham Moseley headed up the M6 for the second time this season for a fixture that was abandoned in the 63rd minute back in December due to floodlight failure.

Thankfully, the lights were shining brightly this time around with eighth placed Sale looking for a fourth home win on the bounce against a side buoyed by an impressive victory against high-flying Rams the previous week.

The Dogs started the game on the front foot, keeping Moseley pinned in their half, and the visitors soon lost number 8, Oliver Stedman, when he was shown yellow for a deliberate knock on in midfield.

Sale took almost immediate advantage as a chip over the defence from winger, Tom Walsh, caused all sorts of chaos in the in-goal area, allowing scrum-half, Joe Green, to dot down; James Robins added a fine conversation from the touchline. 7-0

The blue and whites continued to impress with the ball in hand and had several opportunities to extend their lead, but a mixture of good defence and a lack of precision in the final pass proved frustrating.

Having weathered the storm, the visitors hit back a minute before half-time, collecting an overthrown lineout on Sale’s 10m line and moving the ball for William Safe to run in. HT 7-5

Having regrouped during the break, Sale began the second half as they had the first and moved further in front when a cross kick from Green was collected by Mark Dixon who managed to get the ball down under considerable pressure. 12-5

In the 55th minute, Robins was carded for an illegal play on Moseley scrum-half, Thomas Miles, and from the resulting attacking lineout, Stedman forced his way over the line to close the gap. 12-10

Ten minutes later, with player parity restored, the Dogs took the game away from the visitors with two quick fire tries. The first was all the work of Stone Priestley-Nangle as he charged down an attempted clearance before collecting the bouncing ball to power over. 17-10

The second owed everything to the impressive Sale pack as the catch and drive took hooker, Josh Brown, over the whitewash for his 14th try of the season. 22-10

Despite some late pressure from Moseley, the Sale defence held firm to deny the visitors a losing bonus point and go level on points in the middle of National League One. FT 22-10
