Mini & Junior Rugby Overview - Sale FC

The Heart of Our Club

Our Mini & Junior Section

Restarted just over 16 years ago, our Mini & Junior section is the cornerstone of Sale FC. We have grown steadily ever since and are now proud to have over 350 children training and playing at Carrington every week.

It is a true family section, with many of the club's key officials—including the Chairman, Club Secretary, Chair of Rugby, and Chair of Minis & Juniors—having had their own children play throughout the age groups and into senior rugby.

A Proven Pathway for All

Our pathway is designed to develop players from their very first steps on a pitch right through to senior-level rugby. In recent years, we have been incredibly proud to see players from our M&J, Girls, and Colts sections progress to play in all five of our senior teams—from our National One 1st XV and our community Vikings and Norsemen teams, to our 1861 and 1861 Bees women's teams.

Tricky's Pups (Ages 2.5 - 5)

The journey begins here! A fun, active introduction to rugby for toddlers, focusing on running, catching, throwing, and games in a safe and engaging environment.

Minis (U6 - U11)

Players learn the fundamentals of the game, starting with Tag Rugby (U6-U8) to build confidence, evasion, and passing skills. From U9 to U11, they are safely introduced to contact, scrums, rucks, and kicking in a structured, development-focused progression.

Juniors (U12 - U16)

As players move to secondary school, the game expands. Our Junior section develops tactical understanding and technical skills as players progress to the full 15-a-side game, mastering lineouts, contested scrums, and advanced kicking.

Sale FC 1861 Girls (U12 - U18)

One of the fastest-growing parts of our club, the 1861 Girls section provides a dedicated and supportive pathway for girls to develop their skills and friendships, feeding directly into our two successful senior women's teams.

Sale FC Colts (U17 - U18)

The final step in junior rugby. Our Colts program bridges the gap to the adult game, providing elite coaching and a clear pathway into one of our three senior men's teams.

More Than Just Rugby
