RFU Suspends All Rugby | Club Statement

We appreciate your patience and support in these difficult times.

Taken from the RFU Website:

Rugby activity includes club training, league and cup matches plus rugby education courses from 17 March until 14 April subject to continued review.

The decision has been taken following government advice in the interests of players, coaches, referees, volunteers, supporters and the wider rugby union community.

Where possible, players at all levels are encouraged to maintain their own personal fitness and keep active during this time, while following government guidelines about safe distance and safe exercise environments.

The RFU will continue to review and monitor government advice and will provide detailed updates on the impact to the season in the coming weeks.

Club Statement:

In light of the Government’s briefing on Monday 16  thMarch and the subsequent RFU announcement, Sale FC will be suspending all rugby activities immediately.
This means that there will be no 1  st XV, Ladies, Colts or M&J’s games or training prior to  the 14  th April (subject to continued review).
Unfortunately, this also means that tours organised by the U9s-U15s will be postponed until further notice. Please also note that our annual Ladies Day planned for  the 28  thMarch will be rearranged for a later date (ticket holders will be contacted regarding refunds).
I am sure you will appreciate that like other businesses, this will be a testing time for our club. However, the Executive and Management Team will continue to work hard to minimise the negative impact on the club. Please note that at this time we will continue to be open and operating day to day, however, we kindly ask that if you have business with the club that you contact us via telephone or email in the first instance.
As a club, we do appreciate that this is a worrying time for members and we urge you to continue to follow the government guidelines.
We will continue to keep you updated via our club newsletter and social media.

Scunthorpe RUFC Appeal & Support

The Sale FC Dogs will be supporting Scunthorpe RUFC and the Walker family this Saturday- 23rd November- by holding a bucket collection ahead of our Richmond fixture. Following the death of local rugby player, James Walker. We would like to encourage all our FC fans to donate generously as part of the rugby community. Lets share our SaleFamily love this weekend in remembrance of a cherished advocate of the sport.

Colin Chapman from Scunthorpe RUFC provides further details

Tragically, the night of Friday 1st November 2019, Scunthorpe player James Walker took his own life. With the team set to play Chester away in National 2, and the Rugby World Cup Final set the following morning, this was news they would never expect- “from hearing the news, the whole club felt numb”.

There was a real determination from his teammates to make sure his name remains in a positive light, raising awareness and as much funds as possible to support those struggling with the same issues James faced. A noble act of community. This is when his team mates and club decided to team up with local charity “One for the Lads”, set up to combat and help men struggling with mental health issues. Scunthorpe players commit to Movember, growing out their “Mo’s” to raise funds individually, whilst as a club, numerous events throughout the season will fundraise and promote mental health as well as the £50,000 target.

In support, a number of our Sale FC players will feature beautiful looking “Mo’s” this Movember to also individually raise funds for the cause. As a club we hope we can contribute generously, with donation buckets doing their rounds in these upcoming fixtures:

Players not featured in the Matchday squad will be doing rounds on the weekend to collect donations.

Hindle Cup

Sale Grammar’s Alumni go head to head for the Hindle Cup this Thursday evening.

This Thursday Evening sees Sale Grammar’s Alumni Old Boys facing off against Sale Grammar’s Even Older Alumni Boys for the Hindle Cup.

The Hindle Cup as it is proudly known is named after Mr Andrew Hindle, who was the former Head of Physical Education at the school, where he taught so many of the Alumni Old Boys during their time at the school.

The Hindle Cup games were created as a way of not only remembering Mr Hindle and the work he did at the school, but to also provide a legacy, allowing students both young and old to compete for the cup in his memory, therefore bringing together the former alumni of the school on this prestigious sporting occasion.

Kick Off on Thursday Evening will be 7.30pm, with admission being Adults £5 and Children U16 £3.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

April is Bowel Cancer awareness month, and here at Sale FC Rugby we are proud to support this programme.

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month – Here are some facts that you need to be aware of.

Sale FC Rugby are proud to announce that they will be supporting the Bowel Cancer Awareness campaign this April. Bowel Cancer sadly takes the lives of 42,000 people each year, and in terms of where it ranks within the forms of the most common cancers, it is the fourth most prominent in the UK ahead of Skin Cancer (Melanomas).

Furthermore, it is perceived that only older adults are more likely to get Bowel Cancer. Currently, the statistics show that every 9 out of 10 (94%) of adults aged over 50, and nearly six in every ten cases (59%) aged over 50 are diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.

However, it must be added that it isn’t just specific to these age groups and is more widely spread in terms of the demographic split. More alarmingly, is the fact that 268,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with this type of cancer, meaning that 1 in every 15 men and 1 in every 18 women will be diagnosed throughout their lifetime.

How then can you help yourself and others to ensure that you don’t ever suffer this awful cancer?

Above we have a series of simple checks and procedures that people (both men and women) can follow to check for the symptoms that are most common with this type of cancer.

What we must add here is that if you feel or have ANY of these symptoms please make an appointment with your doctor to get checked over by a health care professional.

Here at Sale FC Rugby, we feel it is important to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer as it affects so many lives each year, and also the fact that it really isn’t age discriminatory when it comes to who can actually be directly affected by it.

Upon speaking about our involvement with the Bowel Cancer Awareness campaign for the month of April, General Manager Dave Hulme said “At Sale FC Rugby we are always conscious of the need to raise awareness of campaigns like the Bowel Cancer one, as we have a responsibility within the local and wider communities to ensure that we as a club are able to highlight the importance of getting checked out if you feel or experience any of the common symptoms, that are associated with Bowel Cancer. “

At the game this Saturday (against Plymouth Albion) we will be joined by members of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust who will be raising awareness themselves about Bowel Cancer.
