Sale FC can confirm that Tom Brady will retire from rugby, bringing to a close a career that has spanned over a decade across the professional and national leagues.

From a young supporter to a key figure on the wing, Brady’s journey has come full circle finishing his career back in the North West at Sale FC. A career that saw him flourish in the premiership with Sale Sharks, then head to Leicester Tigers earning silverware. A short stint in France with US Carcassonne and back to the North West. Finding a new home down the road to the club that gave him his chance, Sale FC. Within that tom became a centurion for both Sale Rugby clubs and for the past 2 seasons has been the Club Captain.

Reflecting on his career, Brady points to his time at Sale Sharks as a source of immense pride.

“Playing 130+ games for Sale Sharks — the team I grew up supporting — is something I’m really proud of,” he said. “It also gave me the resilience and discipline I’ve taken into life.”

Tom Brady (Winger) | Leicester TigersAfter breaking into the first team, Brady quickly developed the belief that he could build a long career in the game.

“Once I was playing regularly in my second season, I had the self-belief that I’d play a lot for Sharks.”

His journey through the professional game brought both highs and challenges.

“It was mostly fun and I created great memories, but there was also a lot of anxiety around selection, contracts and agents. As a young man, that was difficult to manage at times.”

One moment, however, stood out as a turning point.

“Scoring on my Premiership debut at 19 gave me a lot of confidence, which I carried throughout my career.”

After spells at the top level, Brady’s return to Sale FC marked a different chapter, one he describes as the most enjoyable of all.

“To finish at Sale FC has been perfect. I’ve never had this much fun on the field,” he said.
“The club has a beautiful atmosphere thanks to the work of the volunteers.”

Balancing rugby with life beyond the game brought new challenges.

“It’s probably been more demanding than professional rugby — balancing a full-time job, a young family, and the commitments of training and travel.”

Throughout his time at the club, Brady hopes his influence has extended beyond performance.

“I hope I’ve passed on calmness, presence and enjoyment to the younger players.”

He also highlighted those who shaped his career.

“Mark Cueto was a big influence early on, he shared everything he could with me while playing for England,”Sale's Mark Cueto enjoys home farewell at expense of Newcastle | Premiership 2014-15 | The GuardianBrady said.
“And at Sale FC, I’ve loved playing for Tote. His empathy and kindness have influenced me enormously.”

As for what makes a strong environment, Brady is clear:

“Respect, unselfishness, hard work, fun oh and zero tolerance for anything else.”

Now stepping away from the game, Brady is focused on family life and his career off the pitch.

“I’m really enjoying my work and looking to progress further. We’ve also bought a barn conversion in the countryside — planning to add chickens and goats to the mix alongside the dogs, cats and my 2 kids!!!”

“It was honestly an easy decision. The commitment was becoming unmanageable, and I’m enjoying spending more time with my kids. My body feels much better for it too.”

While stepping away from playing, Brady’s connection to the club remains.

“Once my son is a bit older, I’d love to get involved with the minis and juniors and help coach.”

He leaves with a message of gratitude,  particularly for those behind the scenes.

“My thanks is mostly to the volunteers. They are our biggest supporters. They dedicate themselves to making this the best rugby club in the country — and I’ll support it forever.
