Sale FC lose to Richmond in apocalyptic conditions

The blue and whites entered the Heywood Road turf looking to bounce back to winning ways against Richmond.

It took only 3 minutes for “The Dogs” to get their noses in front, going through several phases near the whitewash before centre, Connor Doherty, blasted through the defensive line to score; James Robins added the conversion. 7-0

The weather took an immediate turn for the worse and the visitors bounced back in the monsoon-like conditions with a try from prop, Conor Maguire, converted by Ed Landray. 7-7

Both sides then traded penalties from James Robins and Landray respectively, before the away side went into the break in the lead as scrum half, Luc Jones, spotted a gap and scrambled over. HT 10-17

Richmond extended their lead just two minutes into the second half, winning a 5m lineout and mauling to the line for Mark Bright to plunge over; Landray again on target with the extras. 10-24

The rain continued to pour down making handling extremely difficult and neither side could hold on to the ball long enough to create pressure.

Sale finally managed to pull the score back in the 78th minute when the catch and drive worked seamlessly for replacement hooker, Rob Makin, to dive over but the visitors deservedly took the spoils. FT 15-24
