“Welcome to Sale FC, Corbin! Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you first got into rugby?”
CT:”My names Corbin Thunder, i’m from Durban, South Africa.
My boetie (brother) was playing rugby before i stepped foot on this earth, so i’d say my introduction to rugby would’ve been through him. We both started playing when we were about 4 for our local rugby club Hillcrest Villagers.
“You’ve played for a few different teams before joining us. What has been the most memorable moment in your rugby career so far, and why?”
CT:”My short stint at wasps before they folded was my happiest time with ball in hand. i’ve made some memories and mates that i’ll cherish forever. We had an Acad house that slept 16 and i think making my debut along side 12 of the boys i was living with was definitely my most memorable moment! A few of them have cracked on really well and i’m really proud of them!!
“What do you enjoy doing off the field? Are there any hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about that might surprise your new fans?”
CT:”I’ve always thought that there’s a lot more to me then just rugby and finding time to feed my off-field passions has become a big part of my life. I’ve always been on the creative side, so art, music and fashion are 3 passions that i have away from the field. During my time at home in the beginning of the year i taught myself how to sew on the sewing machine and put together a few items. So fashion is something that i’ve really enjoyed away from the game and is something that i’d love to pursue at some point in my life.
“What drew you to Sale FC, and what are you most looking forward to about playing for our team ?
CT:” My agents been a big part of my journey, getting me over here from South Africa after school and opening more doors then you could imagine! Coming away from full time rugby and taking some time off to be at home during my dad’s heart operation was something that i needed to do and my agent always supported that. But coming back over to the UK again is always daunting as i love home dearly but he reassured me that Sale’s system was that of a high standard with good coaches and players… It’s been that and so much more, it’s always difficult answering a question of whats drawn you to a club. but after only a few weeks it’s very easy to see why so many of the boys just keep on coming back every season. It’s well knit group that i’ve found myself growing and connecting with very quickly
.
“How would your former teammates describe you both as a player and as a person? What qualities do you think you’ll bring to Sale FC?”
CT: “hahaha, you’d have to ask them, but i’d like to think they would say something along the lines of he’s hard and loves to get stuck in both sides of the ball. I’ve lived by a few quotes, one of them being “if you gonna sit at the table, you better bring something to eat” – that being said i’m here to bring my bit to the table!
Cheers Corbs!
