Sale started slowly with Macclesfield on the attack from the start, eventually crossing in the left corner after 5 minutes.

From the re-start Sale started to play with more confidence and responded on 10 minutes with a try from Rigg, who received a sublime cut out pass from Bentley, to walk in unopposed.

On 16 mins things got better for Sale as Dodd crossed from close range for a 10 – 5 lead.

Sale were now the dominant team until a long clearance kick from Macc was fumbled by the Sale back 3 allowing Macclesfield player to pick up the loose ball and score a converted try on 30 mins.

The 2^nd half started as the 1^st with Macclesfield on the attack.  Only 2 minutes into the half a mishit clearance kick went straight to the Macc left winger, who beat several defenders before touching down to extend the lead to 17-10.

Soon after, more poor tackling from Sale gave Macc after simple try to extend their lead further to 22-10.

Undeterred Sale hit back with 2 tries of their own from Tully and Jones to go into a 24-22 lead.

However, with Sale tiring Macc scored 2 further tries to lead 36-24 with minutes left.

Sale went on the attack from the re-start and a tap penalty on the final play of the game ended with Robinson scoring to make the final score, in an excellent game of end to end rugby, 29-36.
