Sale dig deep to secure bonus point win over Moseley

Four games to go and both Sale FC and Birmingham Moseley were looking for points for very different reasons; the Dogs trying to keep pace with the top three and the visitors aiming to move away from the relegation zone.

Sale flew out of the traps and were ahead as early as the 2nd minute when a Josh Brown charge down saw them regain possession and score through Stone Priestley-Nangle; James Robins added a fine conversion. 7-0

Winger, Tom Walsh, extended the lead in the 10th minute with a converted try, but the visitors bounced back almost immediately when Oliver Stedman broke the line, Austin Nevitt on hand to stride in under the posts; Tighe Maxwell-Whiteley was on target from the tee. 14-7

The Dogs were on the scoresheet again soon after when skipper, Andy Hughes, capitalised on Corbin Thunder’s mini break but Moseley refused to go away and reduced the arrears before half-time with Freddie Painter scampering in. HT 21-14

Sale started the second 40 as they had the first and earned their bonus point try through scrum half, Matt Bradley, who was making his first start of the season. 28-14

Back came the visitors again, Santiago Edwards diving over after a period of pressure, only for the blue and whites to continue the tit-for-tat scoring with Walsh grabbing his second of the afternoon. 33-21

The Dogs then lost Harry Davey to a yellow card for a high tackle and the Midlanders took advantage with Maxwell-Whiteley narrowing the gap again. 33-26

However, on returning to a full complement, Sale outscored the visitors two tries to one to take the win; Fergus Mulchrone and Nathan Langdon notching for the hosts and Travis Bennett-Allcock for Moseley. FT 47-31

Another cracking game of National One rugby setting up an intriguing final 3 weeks of the season from 11th April.
