Late swing at Park sees Sale defeated
Your message has been sent
5th versus 4th at The Rock on Saturday afternoon as both Rosslyn Park and Sale FC looked to keep pace with the top 3 sides in National One.
Due to various issues, Sale arrived at the ground a little later than they had hoped and Park flew out of the traps with two tries in the first 4 minutes through winger, Charlie Walker, both converted by Bill Johnston. 14-0
Sale troubled the scoreboard for the first time in the 8th minute as the forwards mauled to the line for Evan Mintern to crash over. However, their joy was short lived as James Cordy-Reddin took advantage of a kind bounce to run in unopposed. 21-5
Undeterred, the Dogs fought back with tries from Joe Green, after a rapid break from Tom Walsh, and then Dylan Hodkinson following a barnstorming run from Corbin Thunder. 21-17
Then, on the stroke of half-time, Sale surged in front as Green grabbed his second, sniping cleverly from the base of a ruck before adding the extras. HT 21-24
The Dogs bounded out of the dressing rooms to extend the lead just 2 minutes into the second half as Harry Davey crashed over out wide but Park responded almost immediately through Joe Luca Smith. 26-29
The topsy-turvy nature of the match continued as the teams exchanged tries. Alfie Longstaff peeled off the back of a catch and drive to score for Sale before Ed Volley responded for Park with Johnston converting. 33-34
This proved crucial for the home side as Johnston kicked a penalty from 25m with only 2 minutes remaining to win the game. FT 36-34
A bitter pill to swallow for Sale as, despite outscoring the hosts 6 tries to 5 and securing two bonus points they suffered a late, late defeat against Park for the second time this season.
