Sale beat Moseley in swamp-like conditions

Sale headed to Billesley Common to take on a struggling Birmingham Moseley side on a filthy afternoon in the Midlands.

The blue and whites spent the majority of the first 15 minutes camped in opposition territory but failed to trouble the scoreboard, and the hosts made them pay when they opened the scoring through Louis Mifsud, converted by fly-half, Tighe Maxwell-Whiteley. 7-0

The lead was extended a few minutes later when scrum-half, Jack Jolly, slotted a difficult penalty from 35m but the Dogs responded with a penalty of their own through Joe Green. 10-3

That seemed to galvanise Sale and after several attacking thrusts from the forwards, the ball was moved to Fergus Mulchrone who arrowed a pass for Mark Dixon to dive over in the corner. HT 10-8

The rain eased briefly at the start of the second half and it was the hosts who scored first with Jolly adding a second penalty. 13-8

The decisive score came in the 50th minute as the catch and drive, which Moseley had defended well in the first half, proved effective with Nathan Langdon emerging from the back of the pack to dash in; Joe Green added the simple conversion. 13-15

With the weather getting increasingly worse, the Dogs managed the game well, continuing to dominate territory and with chances to extend the lead but, ultimately, they held on for a hard-fought win on the road. FT 13-15

No game next weekend but then games against fellow top 5 teams, Blackheath and Plymouth, to look forward to.
