Hughes reaches 200 as Sale overpower Bishop’s Stortford

Sale FC were back at the Morson Stadium looking to extend their winning run to four games against a Bishop’s Stortford side hoping to kick start their season.

Let out by captain, Andy Hughes, making his 200th appearance for the club, the Dogs were soon up and running in the game as Pete Vickers stepped through the defensive line on halfway and showed tremendous pace to make it over the whitewash; Will Davies converted. 7-0

Sale were playing some sparkling attacking rugby and two further tries followed as back row, Seb Kelly, grabbed a brace, the second an unbelievable wriggle out of a tackle to score under the posts; Davies added the extras. HT 21-0

The visitors opened their account for the afternoon in the 47th minute as winger, Benjamin Furrer, evaded tackles down the line to score in the corner. 21-5

That was just a minor setback for the hosts though as Nev Edwards and Will Davies added tries in quick succession, the second a sharp interception try from the Sale fly-half. 33-5

Tries from the excellent Mark Dixon and a second for Nev Edwards put the icing on the cake for Sale, albeit a superb interception from full-back, David Hayes, gave the visitors a late consolation. FT 43-12

A powerful and vibrant attacking display from Sale sees them challenging towards the top of National One whilst Bishop’s Stortford return to Hertfordshire with plenty to think about.
