THE DOGS SNATCH VICTORY FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT

Sale FC took on unbeaten Rotherham at the CorpAcq Stadium looking to bounce back from last weeks first defeat of the season.

The game started in bright sunshine and the blue and whites were ahead as early as the 6th minute when brilliant play from the backs saw fly half, Will Hunt, release his half back partner, Joe Green, to score under the posts. Hunt added the simple conversion. 7-0

Three minutes later, the visitors were level as their forwards bombarded the whitewash before prop, Charles Capps, dived over. Centre, Richard Hayes added the extras. 7-7

The Titans formidable pack was proving difficult to contain and they took the lead in the 23rd minute as they went through phase after phase before moving the ball for centre, Tomasi Tanumi, to ghost in. Hayes was on target again from the tee. HT 7-14

The second 40 commenced under steady rain and when the dogs gave away a penalty at the scrum in the 53rd minute, Hayes extended the lead from 35 metres. 7-17

The visitors were still dominating territory but Sale slowly hauled themselves back into the game and closed the gap with only 8 minutes remaining on the clock; Stone Priestley-Nangle blasted through a gap in the defence after strong play from the forwards and Hunt kicked the two. 14-17

The match was set up for a grandstand finish and when Sale earned a kickable penalty in the last minute, Hunt opted for the corner. This was to prove an inspired decision as the forwards secured the lineout and muscled their way to the line, with help from the backs, to propel Josh Brown over. Hunt kicked a fine conversion to put the icing on the cake. FT 21-17

So the boys back on track after a heroic effort to win late against a very strong Rotherham side who will cause plenty of teams problems this season.
