Review - 27/04/13

Whilst our 1st XV had already secured both the league title and the Cheshire Vase, yesterday saw the last of the league games in all our teams' leagues with the play-off match between Liverpool St. Helens and Morley going the way of the visitors as LSH lost 17-28 to the Yorkshiremen, who will now return to National 3 North after one season in North 1 East. In North 1 West Leigh beat Wirral 32-30 but the result had no effect on league placings as Wirral finished in 4th place five points behind Vale of Lune.

Our 2nd XV completed the league season with a 33-13 victory against Macclesfield 3's, but as Sandbach 2's had an eight point win at home to Rossendale, it was the South Cheshire club that won the league title, with Sale securing promotion in second place. What a difference two single point home defeats have made! As a result of our match yesterday, Macclesfield 3's retained their league status on points difference over Aldwinians 3s who will now be relegated.

On Merseyside our 3rd XV, under the guidance of Raz Roy, beat promoted side Liverpool Vet School 29-18 to overtake Southport 2's and secure fourth place in League 3 North. This was a fine finish to the league season which saw the squad in the second half of the campaign lose narrowly 0-5 at home to the ultimate league champions Leigh 3's, beat Liverpool Vet School on their own ground, and also secured a victory over 3rd placed Preston Grasshoppers at Carrington.

Congratulations to all sides on their successes this season.

27/04/13 - Preview

With the 1st XV already Champions the spotlight falls onto our 2nd & 3rd XV's.

The 2nds travel to Macclesfield to play Macc. 3's in their final league game of the season and will be looking to maintain the strong finish to the season, and make it ten wins from ten since their last defeat to Sandbach 2's back in mid February. With our side already secured of promotion in 2nd place in the league, the focus will be on Macclesfield as they are currently in the drop zone, one point behind Aldwinians, so they will go level even if they lose the match, but if they win, or lose by less than a 24 points margin, they will be safe. All to play for it seems.

Our 3rd XV play Liverpool Vet. School in Merseyside and whilst the hosts beat us 33-50 at Carrington earlier in the season, Sale did have the distinction of scoring the highest number of points against them in a single match this season. As far as LVS are concerned they cannot improve on their league position and have already secured promotion, but a victory for Sale would ensure we overtake Southport 2's and finish the season in 4th place.

	Goos luck to both sides.
