On a magnificent sunny day at Heywood Road, Sale looked to continue their flying start to this year’s league campaign against Tynedale. Sale looked intent on playing an expansive game from the off with both forwards and backs linking well from early on. Mayor was immediately replaced sustaining a hamstring injury.
With some superb handling again from Sale, Tynedale were struggling to keep up with the pace of the Home sides game, Stelmaszec was influential throughout resulting in Moorhouse crossing and Mcgovern adding the conversion. With continued pressure, Tynedale received a yellow card for continual infringement’s and with the extra man trying to force the play, Moorhouse cheekily intercepted and scored his second, Mcgovern added the points for a 21 – 0 score after27 mins.
After good play by Tynedale they were awarded a penalty and duly converted to get on the scoreboard. Sadly for Adam Aigbokhae who was in imperious form, he looked to have sustained an arm injury, later confirmed as fractured. He was replaced by Ben curry, which showed off Sale’s strength from the bench. With the continuous pressure, Tynedale were yellow carded again and Johnson nudged a lovely drop goal on half time to bring the score 24-3. A superb half of rugby was displayed.
Tynedale tried to get more into the game but the additions to sale this year seems to proving crucial with some patient rugby and defence. This allowed Johnson to dictate play with Mcgovern and Moorhouse being a constant threat. The forwards were now on top and with tries from Barker and Birchall the game was out of sight with bonus points in the bag. Mcgovern yet again added the points. Tynedale did hit back with a try of their own but the game was rounded off with a superb Crossfield kick, straight of the training ground into the arms of Postlethwaite who jinked inside and out and finished superbly, conversion was added to offer a final score of 45-13. Well done to the lads.
