Sale FC 2nds v Lymm 2nds
After last week’s 41 all draw, a much changed squad were looking to keep the attacking prowess but tighten up on defence versus Lymm. We had already played them a couple of times this season, sharing the spoils across two cracking games and this week proved no different.
Sale were quickly on attack from the start of the game, running through the phases and scoring a couple of good tries. Lymm came back, profiting from a series of missed tackles to register their first points. This was to prove the pattern of them game, Lymm using their size in the backs to try and power through, and Sale playing close to the ruck before getting the ball wide where they had the edge.
The latter format provided a contender for our try of the season with hard work by the forwards gaining territory and putting the Lymm defence on the back foot. Quickly recycled ball was moved along the line before a delightful grubber was put through by Phil White and Kieran Harmer (making his debut) showed admirable pace to gather, collect and score what would turn out to be the winning try.
We then just had to hold out the final minutes of the game and the defence stood up, winning a penalty at the ruck. This was eventually put out by skipper Ben Simpson for a thoroughly deserved win.
