2ndTeam Match Report v Lymm 2
Sale FC Rugby 49 Lymm RFC 2 24
Saturday 15thDecember 2018
Sale 2s welcomed Lymm 2s to Carrington on what would prove to be tough conditions for all. Sale started the game with 14 men and despite this started much the stronger side.
With Christian Taylor playing an unfamiliar centre role, he managed to take the ball inside the Lymm half, evade a few defenders before streaking clear to give Sale the perfect start to the match. Sale continued to pile on the pressure, with a brilliant try from Felix Egan soon to follow.
Felix was causing Lymm all sorts of trouble with his quick steps and sure fire tackling throughout the game, something which had been missing over the last couple of fixtures so far this season.
Further tries from Ben Simpson, Christian Taylor once again, Harry Stainton and Jayden Gunn followed to give Sale a 42-0 lead at the break. During the first half, Sale had picked up a few knocks, which meant that Sale were likely to lose another player as the game progressed.
Going into the 2ndhalf, Sale worked hard once more to make the score line greater as John Blanchard Jr cleverly picked at a ruck and went straight under the sticks to take the score to now an unassailable 49-0 with Callum Ramsey adding the extras. Callum Ramsey’s kicking was exemplary on the day as he finished with a perfect return of 7/7.
Due to the physical nature of this encounter Sale went down to 13 men, as Andrew Edwards-Bailey had what looked a nasty injury. However, Sale were 49-0 to the good for the remainder of the game for the last 15 minutes, as the numbers difference told.
Lymm during this last 15 minute period ran in 4 tries to add some respectability to the scoreboard. All in all, Sale were dominant despite the numbers and conditions, Giving them a bonus point victory right before Christmas.
