Match Report

Sale FC Lose for the first time in the league since 14th October 2017, a remarkable run of 24 wins and one draw comes to an end in an incredibly disappointing manner.  Make no mistake, there were flashes of brilliance, most notably from winger Arron Reed scoring a brace including an intercept try which seemed for a moment to have crushed the spirit of Cinderford. However, the penalty count was again too high and two yellow cards at crucial moments meant that would should have been a 5 point bonus point victory, became our first single point game since we lost 9-7 to Tynedale in October last year.

So far Sale FC have played three games this season, in each of them we were in a position to finish the opposition off and in each case our discipline has cost us dearly.  This league is faster and stronger no doubt, but what is far more apparent, is that it is played by teams who do their homework, play professionally and either don’t make penalty mistakes at crucial times or are more adept in disguising those infringements.

A full match report and highlights video will be out tomorrow.

This is our first ever game against Cinderford who were promoted to National 1 last season from National 2 South as Champions with a record of 29 wins and just one loss!  They currently lie one point behind us in the table going into the third round of the league. Cinderford, like us have had two incredibly close high scoring encounters in their first two weeks of Level 3 rugby. Last week they beat Birmingham-Molsley away 24-23 and the week previously they lost to Roslyn Park at home 36-29. So this is shaping up to be a real battle as both teams attempt to get some momentum in this league.

This week, Tom Ailes is moved back into the 1st team after a week away and then a week in the 2’s, featuring in their 12-12 draw against Chester 2’s last weekend.  We see Tom Brady moving off the bench last week to the starting lineup and as Chris Johnson is away this week as his wife is expecting, we’ve moved Kieran Wilkinson into the ten position as his cover. Kieran played alongside Joe Kelly and Tom Ailes for Sale Jets on Monday night.  Adam Aigbokhae was away last week, so this week is making an appearance in the 2’s while the back row is shuffled slightly to move Stone Priestly-Nagle to eight. Curtis Langdon, comes onto the bench to replace Adam Aigbokhae who was away last week.
