Match Report

We welcomed Bolton and Rossendale to Carrington for a 3-way fixture. Once the sun had worked its magic on the early frost we were able to get underway albeit on a slightly narrower pitch – and credit to Mike Boyle our Safeguarding Officer who worked with all coaches to allow full contact games to take place at all. He then refereed all three games!

Sale had a customary sleepy first half v Bolton, letting in early tries from some direct Bolton running. The second half saw the best defensive performance of the season, with all Sale players stepping up and showing spirit and courage. For the second week running Ali Ashtar was the stand-out tackler, and a deft kicking game from Ed Kesteven with Jared Moran chasing, had Bolton on the back foot.

Sale were more consistent throughout against a well drilled Rossendale. Sale lost out narrowly by a couple of tries, one at full time. Credit to Rossendale who were blowing in the second half following a tough stalemate fixture v Bolton

Now that defence is starting to take shape, we can turn our attention to our attacking game, and by securing good quality ball and through some core passing focus, can get both our bigger units, and our flyers testing out the opponents. This will be our focus at training this Thursday and Sunday.
