Andy Hughes Named Captain 2017-18

Sale FC are delighted to name Andy Hughes as Captain for the 2017-18 Season.

Andy Hughes who is also our Community Coach has been appointed by the coaching staff to lead the team this season.

Andy has been with us for a couple of seasons now and played a major role in our turnaround from fighting off relegation to battling for promotion.  Andy was dual registered with Sale Sharks and Captain of Sale Jets in the A League last season, but has now moved to Sale FC full time.

Jonathan Keep Director of Rugby identifies his captaincy experience as a major bonus to the squad.

Having captained Sale Jets in the A league last season where he played alongside players such as Sam Tuitupou and David Seymour he’s demonstrated he can perform with the very best.  Players respect him and he’s an excellent conduit between the coaching staff and the players.

Andy says

This is such a huge honour and privilege to be named as the Club Captain of Sale FC.  A prestigious club with a great set of lads who together can achieve great things this year.  I can’t wait to get stuck into the season.

From a club perspective Andy is now a firmly embedded member not just of the 1st team, but also the fabric of the club.  He combines playing with coaching minis and juniors and developing rugby in the Community.

Club President James Hourihan says

Andy has come to us from Sale Sharks this season after playing a pivotal role last season for the Sale FC 1st Team.  He’s a top competitor on the pitch and approachable off the pitch.  The minis and juniors section will benefit massively from his experience in developing players to be the best they can be.  Congratulations Andy.
